Parents and Friends of our Uinta County Service Men and Women;
I am forwarding the following letter from SSgt Matthew Morrow. He has requested help getting children’s’ books donated for a program that Matt and many of our soldiers are participating in. If you have used children’s’ books - ages 0 to 10 you could donate, drop them off at the Uinta County Court House - Commissioners Office, or to Kim Morrow at Home Decor. If you have questions about the program Kim can be reached at 789-9290. or you can call me (Marian McLean) at 783-0519.
Dear Marian,
I want to thank you for helping my Mom and Dad out with the “United Through Reading” program. I’m not sure if you are going to send a letter out or put a letter in the paper but I would appreciate it if you would pass on the following words.
My name is Matt Morrow and I was born and raised in Evanston. I am in the United States Air Force (USAF) and I am currently deployed to Balad Air Base, Iraq. I have been in the USAF for eight years and I have received nothing short of incredible support from the citizens of Uinta County!
I am writing this letter to ask for your help once again. They have recently built the first Unites States Organization (USO) in Iraq, here at Balad. It is a great organization that brings a little bit of home over to the deployed service members. There is a program offered by the USO called “United Through Reading” and it is free to every service member that wants to take advantage of it. The program allows service members to be videotaped reading children’s books aloud and then sending the DVD and selected books to their children at home. All books and mailing supplies are provided by the USO. The only thing the service member has to do is find time to read a book, or two, to their kids back home. I recently took advantage of this great program and sent a video home to my two boys. I think they will enjoy it and it may help them understand where I am and that I will be home soon. The only limitation of the program is the selection of books. Because the USO is a non-profit organization they have to rely on donations to continue this program. This is where I think the great people of Uinta County can step in and make a difference. They do not need to be new books or in great condition for that matter. They just have to be in good enough condition to make it over here and make it back to a child somewhere in the states. The target age for books would be from 1 to 10 yrs of age. If you would like to help out you can drop off the books down town at Home Décor, ask for Kim Morrow, or you can drop them off at the County Commissioner’s Office, ask for Marian McLean.
Again, I would like to thank everyone for their support for all of Uinta County Service Members and we truly appreciate everything you do for us and our families.
Very Respectfully,
SSgt Matthew Morrow

The Evanston Jaycees are once again requesting grant funds from MyHomeTownHelper.com to complete their Bullard Thermal Imager Project in which they will provide an imager to our local fire department, but they need your help!
The Jaycees began the project in the spring of 2005 after the untimely death of two of our communities volunteer firemen. The organization felt that this would be a great project in which to provide to the community to help save the lives of not only our fireman, but the people in our community.
The Bullard Thermal Imager is a handheld unit that is taken into fires by fireman. By using this device, they can determine the heat source of the fire, any structural damage caused by the fire, and they can detect bodies that might not otherwise be detected due to smoke density. By using this device, fireman can avoid putting themselves in danger as well as rescue the men, women and children of our community who might not otherwise have a chance of surviving a fire.
The Jaycees are asking all of our community to support their request. Please take the following link to their project request http://www.myhometownhelper.com/ViewProject.aspx?tell=2&id=35575 and enter your comments of support for this project. The more support that the Jaycees get from their community, the better chance they will have to receive the grant. For more information or for questions please contact Dawn Darby of the Evanston Jaycees at 783-7456 or 679-2882 or by email at dkirkwood67@roadrunner.com
